Using School Staff Laptops Offsite

Created by Paul Bruce, Modified on Wed, 22 Jan at 1:40 PM by Paul Bruce

When using school laptops outside the school environment, please note the following:

  1. Desktop and Start Menu: The custom desktop and start menu typically found at school will not be present.

  2. Local Account: You will be provided with a local account ".\deastonhome" that has administrative permissions. This allows you to install any printers or additional equipment you might need at home.

  3. Access Limitations: While you can use the laptop offsite, access to certain resources like SIMS, your H:/Drive, the shared X: and V: drives, and any other drives specifically set up for you will be unavailable. However, you do have access to a partition on the laptop's drive labelled "home," where you can save documents if necessary.

  4. Microsoft 365: We strongly encourage you to utilize the Microsoft 365 software provided by the school. It enables you to work seamlessly on files both at home and within the school. OneDrive serves as your personal storage option, and you may also have access to specific SharePoint sites established for your use.
